How to Bathe Your Cat

It is a common known fact that cats hate water, this can make bathing your cat very difficult. There are a few simple steps that you can follow to make the process of bathing smooth and painless for both cat and owner:

  1. Have feline shampoo and a towel ready to go, it also helps if you have a hose like attachment for your tap. This aids with rinsing later on.
  2. Before bringing your cat into the bathroom, fill the tub with 4-5 inches of water that is close to 101.4 degrees in temperature. Most cats body temperature is close to 101.4 degrees, matching the water temperature to this helps to make bathing your cat a more comfortable experience.
  3. Place your cat into the bath, wet the fur and lather with shampoo. Rinse your cat until the water runoff is clear. It is important to wash off all of the shampoo residue, because it can cause your cat irritation and illness when it is later grooming itself.
  4. Take cat out of tub and wrap in a soft towel, dry your cat as much as possible. Your cat will continue to groom itself after you have dried it, allow it to stay inside or in a sheltered environment for this process.
