If you are looking to get a Toy dog, here is a checklist to help. It is worth keeping in mind that no Toy dog breed is recommended for families who have very young children.
Toy dogs make great companions, and demand a large amount of affection and attention. Therefore, not the best choice for a working professional living in an apartment or condo situation. Toy dogs get lonely and dejected very quickly, this usually leads to extended periods of barking or yapping. This has the potential to cause huge problems with your neighbors.

Apartment dwellers- King Charles Spaniel, Chinese Crested, Toy Spaniel, Italian Greyhound, Maltese, Pug, Shih Tzu
Best for allergies- Chinese Crested, Shih Tzu, Toy Poodle, Maltese, Italian Greyhound
Other pets- King Charles Spaniel, Papillon, Pug, Shih Tzu, Papillon, Maltese, Havanese
Active- Affenpinscher, all the Terriers, Brussels Griffon, Miniature Pinscher
Lapdog- Shih Tzu, Maltese, Japanese Chin, Chines crested, Chiunahua, King Charles Spaniel
The size and function of a Toy dog breed makes it a great pet and companion. Toy dogs are small and have a lower need for exercise. Even though they are dainty they are still capable of taking long walks. Thus making them the perfect little package for people who need that flexibility.
